My sister, Debbie, and her grandson

My precious sister, Debbie, has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be having surgery in a couple of weeks.   I haven’t blogged since January, I wasn’t certain whether I wanted to continue blogging or not, but I know there are a lot of  fellow bloggers who believe in the power of prayer so I have decided to blog and ask  for your prayers for my sister.   She is an incredible person, one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.  Her faith is strong and she believes God is in control of her situation, but she needs prayer!   Will you please pray for her?  We would really appreciate your prayers!!

new-year-greeting

I’m a little early wishing you a Happy New Year, but since I haven’t blogged at all over the holidays I decided to get a jump on 2009.   My family and I have had a wonderful holiday season.  We were fortunate to have Ashley’s parents, and his sister and her son here for Thanksgiving, along with all our children and grandchildren.

We were also able to get together for Christmas with our children and grandchildren.   Natalie, Joey, Cupcake, and Blue Eyes came down on Tuesday and stayed until Friday morning (they spent Christmas Eve with Joey’s parents).  Phillip, Beth, Spiderman, and Ladybug  joined us for dinner Tuesday night as well as Christmas morning for brunch.  It was more than wonderful,  I marvel  every time we are all together at God’s goodness to our family.

We were also blessed to have not only our immediate family here Tuesday night for dinner, but to also have Drama Queen’s birth mom and sisters with us as well.  Her sister Hillary, came down and stayed with us Monday through Wednesday, and then Marcie (her birth mom), and her sister Holly, came down early afternoon on Tuesday.  They exchanged gifts and spent family time together, and then stayed and had dinner with us.  It was so much fun, it was great to celebrate the wonder of the season with the people we love.   I’ll try to post pictures tomorrow!

I’m looking forward to a wonderful year in 2009, despite the economic and other uncertainties we face as a nation, I know that God is in control and no matter what the future holds, I know He holds the future!  I pray you have a safe, happy, and healthy New Year!

God Bless!

Tonight’s post marks my one hundredth post, it seems hard to believe that I’ve written that many, especially since I haven’t blogged regularly over the summer.  I’ve been pondering what this post should be about,  I’ve read some blogs where they posted one hundred things about themselves when they reached this milestone, and while theirs was interesting I’m afraid mine would bore you to tears even if I could think of that many things to post about myself.  So, I decided to spare you the agony of having to endure such a fate and post 10 things I praise God for.

1. I praise God for my salvation, that His Son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross for my sins, was buried, and resurrected on the third day and is preparing a place for me in Heaven.

2. I praise God that even when I fail Him, He still loves me and forgives me, without Him I am nothing!

3. I praise God for my godly husband, Ashley, for the miracles He has worked in our marriage, and a love that grows deeper and stronger with each passing year.

4. I praise God for my awesome children, Natalie and Joey, Phillip and Beth, and Drama Queen, they are a blessing to me everyday and I am so proud to be their mom.

5. I praise God for my precious, adorable grandbabies, Cupcake and Blue Eyes, and Spiderman and Ladybug, they hold my heartstrings and bring so much joy to my life, I am so blessed to be their Nana.

6. I praise God for my parents and the godly heritage they passed on to my siblings and me, my mom whose is still here on earth interceding for our family on a daily basis, and my dad who is dancing on streets of gold praising our Heavenly Father,  he’s free from cancer and whole once again.

7. I praise God for my wonderful in-laws who have been second parents to me, they have taught me so much both in word and deed, for my sweet sister-in-law (though she’s as much a sister to me as my biological ones), she is such an inspiration to me, and for her precious son, Zachary, he is our special boy.

8. I praise God for my three sisters and my brother and their families,  even though I don’t get to see them as often as I’d like, they are always in my heart and just a phone call away.  I love being a part of big family, and when we do all get together, it’s a happily chaotic lovefest!

9. I praise God for my friends, both old and new.  The friends that I’ve had since high school, who’ve stood by me through thick and thin and blessed my life immeasurably, friends I’ve met along the way who have enriched my life in many ways,  the new friends that God has brought into my life recently that I look forward to getting to know better, and my blogging friends whom I only know through their blogs, but bless my heart every time I stop by.

10. And last but not least, I praise God for my health, my home, food to eat, clothes to wear, my church, that I live in a free country, and the list just goes on and on.

The list is endless when it comes to things to praise God for,  but  I’ll just post these top ten.  What’s on your list of top ten things to praise God for?   I’d love to read yours,  just leave me a comment or a link to a post if you’ve written a similar one and want to share.

Have a great night!

Sharing Family Photos

One of my favorite pastimes is scrapbooking and looking at our family photos.  Since I started blogging last November I haven’t spent much time on my scrapbooks, but I do feel as though my blog is a scrapbook of sorts.  I share family photos and activities, and tonight’s post is one of those entries.

Natalie and Joey are here with their little ones, Cupcake and Blue Eyes.  They came down yesterday afternoon and we were all together as a family, hanging out, playing with the kids, and having dinner together.  They are spending the nights with Joey’s parents ( I guess we do have to share them, sigh!), but they are coming in the morning for breakfast before they head back to N.C.  We had a lot of fun yesterday, so I wanted to share a few of the photos of our time together.

Goofy Guys ( I just had to post this one!)

I know that I post all the time about how much I love my family and how wonderful they are, but it’s true!  I always knew from a very young age that no matter what else I did in life, I wanted to be a wife and mother more than anything.  I believe God placed that desire in my heart, I don’t have any special gifts or talents to speak of, but I love being a wife to my hubby, a mom to my kids, and Nana to my grandkids.  Nothing brings me greater joy than serving God by taking care of my family.  It’s corny to some I’m sure, but to me it’s the best life I could have.

Have a great night!

Open Adoption

Yesterday, Drama Queen had her monthly visit with her birth mom, Marcie came over after church and we went out to lunch and then to the park.  It was a little too hot to stay at the park for very long, so we headed back to the house so they could hang out together.  I think they both had a great time, Drama Queen looks forward to these visits, she plans for days what they will do when Marcie comes.

Drama Queen and Marcie at the park

I am an advocate of open adoptions whenever the circumstances will allow it,  I know that there are times when it’s just not possible or in the child’s best interest, but it is a blessing when it’s part of God’s plan.  If both the adoptive parents and the birth mother are willing to work together and put the child’s needs first,  it can be a very successful.  It’s not always easy, in fact sometimes it can be stressful, but it’s worth it.

Drama Queen was four years old when she came to live with us and six years old when the adoption was finalized.  We realized early on that an open adoption would be best for everyone involved.   There have been times over the years when we questioned whether we did the right thing by having an open adoption, but we have always come to the conclusion that we did.

We want Drama Queen to always have a good relationship with Marcie, we feel that it’s very beneficial to her emotional well being.  We’re thankful she doesn’t have to wonder about her birth family and why her birth mom decided to let us adopt her.  She knows the circumstances and realizes that Marcie did what was best for her, and she is able to talk to Marcie about it whenever she feels the need.

We love Marcie and consider her part of our family,  we talk about the future and our hopes and dreams for DQ.  Someday, Drama Queen will have both her moms there to watch her graduate from high school and culinary school (if she still wants that), and both of us as mothers of the bride as she walks down the aisle (many years from now!).  I’m blessed to be able to share that honor with Marcie.

Open adoption is not for everyone, but it certainly works for us!

Have a great night!

I think we have our blurriness problem resolved so I’m posting pictures again, hopefully they will not appear blurry to you when you view them.  I mentioned last night that we had helped our friend Mia with her booth at a local Arts and Crafts fair on Saturday and I wanted to post a couple of pictures from the event.  Here are Drama Queen and Mia in her booth, we had a great time and enjoyed spending the day with Mia, she is so much fun to be around.  She is full of life and one of the most positive people I’ve ever met, I’m truly grateful that God has made us friends.  Drama Queen loves her too, and looks forward to art class at Mama Mia’s every Thursday.

          Drama Queen and Mama Mia

They had a face painting booth and Mia treated Drama Queen to having her face painted, the artist who did it was very talented as you can see by the beautiful butterfly on DQ’s face.  She even touched up DQ’s face before we left that evening as it had smeared a little from the heat.  By the time it was over we were all pretty worn out, but we’re already looking forward to the next show.

             My Beautiful Girl

After we unloaded everything and dropped Mia off, we raced home to get cleaned up and pick up Ashley to head out to our town’s annual Freedom Fest.  Every year on the Saturday before the Fourth of July, our town has a celebration in the town square.  There’s a live band, games for the kids, and of course fireworks as soon as it’s dark enough.  We met Beth, Phillip, and the kids there, along with Beth’s mom, Gail (Gigi to Spiderman and Ladybug), and Beth’s younger brother, Rob.

Spiderman showing his patriotic spirit!

Everyone had a great time, Spiderman and Ladybug enjoyed the games, Ladybug got three rings on the ring toss (with no help from anyone), more than anyone the whole evening and she’s only 20 months old, way to go!  Spiderman was very brave, he slid down the giant slide with Drama Queen and came down with a big grin on his face.

The Freedom Fest has become a family tradition for us since we moved here three years ago, we all enjoy it and look forward to it.  The best part is being together and celebrating our country’s birthday.  I love the fireworks at the end of the evening, I still feel like a kid watching them, they’re so beautiful.  A couple of the pictures I took of them came out O.K.,  so maybe I’ll post those tomorrow night.  Well, I’m off to bed, have a restful night!
