I’ve been thinking a lot lately about God’s plan for my life at this point in time, it seems as if He has me in a holding pattern for the time being.  I used to think that I always had to be actively pursuing His plan and purpose for my life, that somehow it was my job to make things happen.  But, I’ve learned this isn’t the case, I just have to be obedient and follow His leading.

My favorite scripture verse is Jeremiah 29:11, ” For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV version)   This verse gives me such peace, to know that my Heavenly Father is in control of my life and I don’t have to be.

I remember when I first learned this verse years ago, I assumed it meant that God had my life all mapped out and it would be smooth sailing, with everything falling into place according to His plan.   I found out the hard way that my journey has many twists and turns, and what seem to me to be unexpected detours, but my Heavenly Father knows exactly what’s around every bend in the road.  There are no surprises for Him!

So, while I wait on Him to reveal the next step in my journey, I will find the joy in today.  I’ll rejoice in the small, everyday blessings that He brings my way.  I will find the joy in my journey!

Have a great night!

Love, Velvia

Zachary horseback riding (You can see the pure joy in his face!)

Sometimes, we encounter angels here on earth without ever realizing it, and then there are angels who come into our lives that we have no doubt that they are sent straight from heaven to us.  One of these angels is our special boy, Zachary,  he is my sister-in-law’s son.  Zach is going to be 18 next month, but he is not your typical teenager, you see, Zach is considered “handicapped”.  He has many special needs, all of which are part of what make Zach so unique.  He has taught me many things over the years, and these are a few of the lessons I have learned from him.

Lesson#1 – Keep smiling; Zach always has a smile on his face, no matter what is going on with him, he is smiling.

Lesson#2 – Find joy in the simple things; Zach loves life, the simplest things in life bring him such incredible joy.

Lesson#3 – Love others unconditionally with your whole heart;  Zach loves with his whole heart and being, and that love is unconditional.

Lesson#4 – Be flexible, you never know what life holds for you; Zach has encountered many difficult things pertaining to his disabilities, and he and his mom have had to roll with the punches.

Lesson#5 – The most important lesson I have learned from Zach is to trust God completely,  there are things that come our way in life that we have no control over and that we don’t understand why we have to endure them, but God is in control and He loves us and wants what’s best for us.  Sometimes, that means letting go of our hopes and dreams and accepting His will, and allowing Him to have His way in our lives.

Gay and Zach on an outing with Fishing with Friends (This kid loves life!)

Gay will probably shoot me for posting this picture, she hates to have her picture taken, but, I just had to share it.  You can see the love she has for Zachary in her face.  I wrote a post about her and what an awesome mom she is, you can check it out in my archives from Feb. 19th, it’s entitled My Hero.   So there you have it, you are seeing an angel in the flesh.  Next time you come in contact with a person with disabilities, take a moment to reflect and thank God for allowing you to be in the presence of an angel!
