I’m a little early wishing you a Happy New Year, but since I haven’t blogged at all over the holidays I decided to get a jump on 2009.   My family and I have had a wonderful holiday season.  We were fortunate to have Ashley’s parents, and his sister and her son here for Thanksgiving, along with all our children and grandchildren.

We were also able to get together for Christmas with our children and grandchildren.   Natalie, Joey, Cupcake, and Blue Eyes came down on Tuesday and stayed until Friday morning (they spent Christmas Eve with Joey’s parents).  Phillip, Beth, Spiderman, and Ladybug  joined us for dinner Tuesday night as well as Christmas morning for brunch.  It was more than wonderful,  I marvel  every time we are all together at God’s goodness to our family.

We were also blessed to have not only our immediate family here Tuesday night for dinner, but to also have Drama Queen’s birth mom and sisters with us as well.  Her sister Hillary, came down and stayed with us Monday through Wednesday, and then Marcie (her birth mom), and her sister Holly, came down early afternoon on Tuesday.  They exchanged gifts and spent family time together, and then stayed and had dinner with us.  It was so much fun, it was great to celebrate the wonder of the season with the people we love.   I’ll try to post pictures tomorrow!

I’m looking forward to a wonderful year in 2009, despite the economic and other uncertainties we face as a nation, I know that God is in control and no matter what the future holds, I know He holds the future!  I pray you have a safe, happy, and healthy New Year!

God Bless!

Tonight’s post marks my one hundredth post, it seems hard to believe that I’ve written that many, especially since I haven’t blogged regularly over the summer.  I’ve been pondering what this post should be about,  I’ve read some blogs where they posted one hundred things about themselves when they reached this milestone, and while theirs was interesting I’m afraid mine would bore you to tears even if I could think of that many things to post about myself.  So, I decided to spare you the agony of having to endure such a fate and post 10 things I praise God for.

1. I praise God for my salvation, that His Son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross for my sins, was buried, and resurrected on the third day and is preparing a place for me in Heaven.

2. I praise God that even when I fail Him, He still loves me and forgives me, without Him I am nothing!

3. I praise God for my godly husband, Ashley, for the miracles He has worked in our marriage, and a love that grows deeper and stronger with each passing year.

4. I praise God for my awesome children, Natalie and Joey, Phillip and Beth, and Drama Queen, they are a blessing to me everyday and I am so proud to be their mom.

5. I praise God for my precious, adorable grandbabies, Cupcake and Blue Eyes, and Spiderman and Ladybug, they hold my heartstrings and bring so much joy to my life, I am so blessed to be their Nana.

6. I praise God for my parents and the godly heritage they passed on to my siblings and me, my mom whose is still here on earth interceding for our family on a daily basis, and my dad who is dancing on streets of gold praising our Heavenly Father,  he’s free from cancer and whole once again.

7. I praise God for my wonderful in-laws who have been second parents to me, they have taught me so much both in word and deed, for my sweet sister-in-law (though she’s as much a sister to me as my biological ones), she is such an inspiration to me, and for her precious son, Zachary, he is our special boy.

8. I praise God for my three sisters and my brother and their families,  even though I don’t get to see them as often as I’d like, they are always in my heart and just a phone call away.  I love being a part of big family, and when we do all get together, it’s a happily chaotic lovefest!

9. I praise God for my friends, both old and new.  The friends that I’ve had since high school, who’ve stood by me through thick and thin and blessed my life immeasurably, friends I’ve met along the way who have enriched my life in many ways,  the new friends that God has brought into my life recently that I look forward to getting to know better, and my blogging friends whom I only know through their blogs, but bless my heart every time I stop by.

10. And last but not least, I praise God for my health, my home, food to eat, clothes to wear, my church, that I live in a free country, and the list just goes on and on.

The list is endless when it comes to things to praise God for,  but  I’ll just post these top ten.  What’s on your list of top ten things to praise God for?   I’d love to read yours,  just leave me a comment or a link to a post if you’ve written a similar one and want to share.

Have a great night!

Love, Velvia

A new blogger friend, Angela, at The Chillemi Weblog , has put out a challenge to post ten things we are thankful for.  I think this is such a great idea, we are so blessed by our Heavenly Father and we should take time to thank Him.

1. I am very thankful for my salvation, that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, was resurrected, and is preparing a place in Heaven for me.

2. I am thankful for God’s love and mercy in my life, that even when I fail Him I can come to Him and receive forgiveness.

3. I am thankful for His divine direction and guidance.  I know that He has a plan and a purpose for my life and I don’t have to worry about the future.

4.I am thankful that He is changing me daily.  I don’t have to live in mediocrity because He is helping me to become the woman He wants me to be.

5. I am so thankful for His many blessings in my life.  They are numerous, but I will list the five most important ones:

6. My wonderful husband, Ashley, and the 29 years of marriage we have shared.  God has been ever faithful to see us through the tough times, and has blessed us with many wonderful ones.

7. My precious children and children-in-love, Natalie and Joey, Phillip and Beth, and Drama Queen.  They have been, and are, my heart.  I am extremely proud of each of them, they are amazing people and I am blessed to be their mom.

8. My wonderful, amazing grandchildren, Cupcake and Blue Eyes, and Spiderman and Ladybug.  These four little munchkins are one of God’s most precious blessings.  They bring so much joy into my life, I am privileged to be their Nana.

9. My wonderful family: my mom, my siblings  and their families, Ashley’s parents, my sister-in-law and her son.  Even though I don’t get to see them as often as I would like, they are very much a part of my life, and I love them all dearly.

10. My sweet friends, from my oldest and dearest ones I’ve had since I was young, to my new ones I’ve met through blogging.  Each one is special to me, my friends are the spice of life!!

The list is never ending because God has been so good to me.  I am thankful to Him for everything because without Him I would have nothing!

Have a great weekend!

Tomorrow morning when I wake up I will be able to take a nice, hot shower after two days of taking lukewarm baths.  Our hot water heater went out on us (or so we thought) on Saturday, and rather than pay the plumber’s weekend rate, we toughed it out until today.  We heated water in pots on the stove, poured it into the bathtub along with a little cold water, and then took really quick baths. I can truly say I have a new respect for our ancestors who had to do this,  I am so grateful I was not born during that era.

I called the plumbing company this morning and spoke to a very nice lady who said they would send someone this afternoon to check it out.  When I asked how much they charged for a service call and she told me, I almost passed out!  Surely she was joking, but nope, she wasn’t.  We suspected that maybe the element had burnt out and I knew that it might take a while to replace it , so then the amount of the service call would be justified, (at least that’s what I tried to tell myself).

The repairman came about 2:00 pm, took a small rectangular cover off the front of the hot water heater, then proceeded to push a red button, and said “O.K., you’re all set!”  I asked him if he was certain that was all that was wrong with it and he assured me it was.

Well, that was a relief, but now I had the dilemma of deciding how to handle being charged an exorbitant amount for a service call that took less than five minutes.  The repairman called it in to the company and when he told them I was not willing to pay the full amount, he was told to charge me a little less than their normal rate.

After several phone calls to and from the plumbing company in which I told the manager I felt it was unfair for them to charge so much for a five minute service call, he agreed to charge me half their normal rate.  I was one very appreciative customer!  They can definitely count on my business in the future.

So now when I wake up tomorrow morning I will be able to take a nice long, leisurely short shower (we’re in a drought here), and I will be ever so grateful for the blessing of hot water.

Have a great night!
