We have a new addition to our family, he is a three month old black and white Shih Tzu that we have named Oreo. We are so excited to have him join our family.  After losing our beloved 16 year old Westie, Missy, this past Wednesday night, we have been grieving and our home seemed so empty without her.  We decided to get another dog as soon as possible, not to replace Missy, but to have another dog to love.

I spent several hours last night researching local humane societies and rescue shelters online, and after visiting a couple of places that didn’t pan out, God led us to a local groomer where we found Oreo.  We know that God had a hand in today’s events, the breeder had been praying for a loving family to adopt Oreo, he was the last of the litter, and we had been praying for a dog that fit our family.

God is so good, He gives us just what we need, right when we need it.  We are so thankful for this little bundle of joy, he is adorable.  He is very laid back and such a sweet little cuddle bunny.  I know he was meant just for us.

                 Our sweet little man, Oreo

Don’t you just love that sweet little face?  He is too cute for words and has the sweetest disposition.   Of course, we are still grieving the loss of our beloved Missy, and will for quite a while, but this little guy is helping to heal our hearts.

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday!

It is with a heavy heart that I return from my blogging break, our sweet Westie, Mistletoe, passed away last night after sixteen years as part of our family.  She has been a wonderful member of our family since Christmas 1992, and she will be sorely missed.

            Our Sweet Girl, Missy

Missy had a seizure yesterday afternoon around 4:00 pm that lasted about 5 minutes, but afterward she seemed fine.  I took her to the vet where he checked her out, he said the most likely diagnosis was a brain tumor given her age.  He told me that since this was her first seizure I should take her home and keep an eye on her, keep a log of her seizures, and call him if she had more than one a month or if she began to have cluster seizures.

Unfortunately, she had a very serious seizure that started around 9:30 pm and lasted about an hour, she never recovered.  Ashley and I were with her to the end, she was struggling to breathe and I leaned over and kissed her head, told her how much we loved her, that she had been a wonderful girl all these years, and that it was O.K. to let go.  She took her final breath and passed on.

          Drama Queen and Missy

Missy brought so much love and joy to our family, we are missing her so much already,  Ashley and Drama Queen are taking it especially hard.  But, she will always be in our hearts and thankfully we have many wonderful memories of our years with her.

            Missy aka Hannah Montana

I had to share this picture of Missy from last Christmas morning.  Drama Queen decided to put her Hannah Montana wig and microphone on poor Missy, and she was so good natured that she stood still for this photo.  She had mellowed so much over the years, from the feisty puppy who barked at everything to the sweet old girl who slept most of the time.   She was the best dog ever!

We love you Missy and will miss you always!

Labor Day Fun

What a great family day we had today!  Ashley, Drama Queen, and I drove up to the town where we used to live (it’s an hour north of here) and went bowling.  The town has a very nice bowling alley/skating rink that was built a few years before we moved away and it’s very clean and has a great family atmosphere.  We bowled two games and I had the lowest score both times, I’m too embarrassed to tell you what my scores were,  let’s just say I bowl like a girl (a little girl at that!).  I forgot my camera so I have no pictures to share, what a bummer.

When we finished our games, Drama Queen skated for over an hour.  Ashley and I decided to just watch since neither of us has skated in quite a while and we didn’t want to risk injuring ourselves.  It’s a lot harder and more embarrassing to pick yourself up off the floor when you’re our age!

Afterward, we met our best friends, James and Deena, at their furniture/appliance store, they closed early for the holiday, and then we drove to a nearby town for an early dinner.  We laughed and talked and caught up with each others lives,  I love that even though we only see each other every few months, we pick up right where we left off.

We’ve been friends since high school and they have been instrumental in our lives in so many ways.  In fact, God used them to lead us to move to Georgia.  They had moved the year before, and when we came to visit them in January of 1996 we knew God was leading us to move, we just didn’t know where at the time.  But, after visiting them we knew it was God’s will for us to move to Ga.  So, here we are twelve years later and although we did move an hour south three years ago to be closer to our grown children and grandchildren, we have remained just as close to them as ever.  We are very blessed to have them for friends.

How did you spend your Labor Day?  I hope you had a wonderful day, and have a great night!

Love, Velvia
