It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving has come and gone and Christmas is on the way.  This is the first opportunity I’ve had since last week to sit down and post.  Thanksgiving was wonderful, we ate, played, and had a great time together as a family.  Hubby was off all week, so we took advantage of the time together and got some of our Christmas shopping done.

I’ve gotten most of my Christmas decorating done.  We are going to get our tree this weekend and I may put a few lights up outdoors, but then I’ll be finished.  I went grocery shopping Monday and got most of the ingredients for our Christmas baking.  I love this time of year, the sights, sounds, and smells of Christmas hold such wonderful memories.  I feel so blessed!

Poor Drama Queen is under the weather today.  She woke up with a temperature of 102.9 and a sore throat.  The odd thing is her throat isn’t even red.  She spent the day on the sofa, drinking ginger ale and resting.  I’m praying she feels better by tomorrow and that I don’t get whatever she has.  My throat is a little sore tonight and I feel a little under the weather, but I do not want to get sick!!  Spiderman’s third birthday is on Friday and we’re going to Chuck E. Cheese’s to celebrate.  His actual birthday party will be on Sunday but Drama Queen and I are tagging along on Friday to help him celebrate.  Nana cannot be sick!

I think I’m going to turn in early tonight.  Goodnight!

It’s so hard to believe that Thanksgiving is almost here!  I was going to blog about how much my feet hurt from Christmas shopping today, but I decided to count my blessings instead.  What a relief, huh?

Let’s see, where to begin?  I am thankful for so many things, I guess the best thing to do is just list them.

I am thankful to my Heavenly Father for the following:

1. For sending His only Son to die in my place, that He has forgiven me of all my sins, and that He loves me unconditionally.

 2. My wonderful Hubby of almost 29 years, even though we have been through some rocky times over the years, we are still together and enjoying life with our children and grandchildren , and I love him more than ever!

3. My three precious children and my two children-in-love, I am so proud of each of them.  They are amazing people.

 4. My precious grandchildren, they are so unique and amazing, and they fill my life with JOY!!!!

5. My sweet mom, my sisters and brother, their spouses, and their children and grandchildren.

6.  Hubby’s wonderful parents, his sister and her son.

7. Our extended family : aunts, uncles, and cousins, and the blessing they are in our lives.

8.  Hubby’s job, and his willingness to work so hard so that I can stay home and homeschool Drama Queen.

9. Our home, the love that it represents, and the safe haven it provides.

10. Our health, as we grow older we know we can’t take it for granted.

11. The food on our table.

12.  Our precious friends.

13. Our church family

These are just a few of the blessings I am thankful for, if I were to list them all it would fill up the blogosphere! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

This morning I woke up at 4:45 am with a serious sinus headache.  I got up to take something for it and couldn’t get back to sleep, so I decided to wake the dog up and take her out.  The sky was gorgeous, it was so clear and the stars were very visible.  While I was gazing at the sky I witnessed a meteor.

The Leonid meteor showers were visible this past weekend and Hubby had seen some of the them.  Since we have been studying the stars for the past two weeks in Science, he had taken Drama Queen outside around 9:30 or so on Friday and Saturday night to see if they could see some of the meteors.  Unfortunately, they didn’t see any while they were out, (the showers were best seen after midnight and that’s too late to stay up to watch).

Well, I got a brilliant idea!  I came back inside and woke up Drama Queen and told her to put on her bathrobe.  I told her it was 5:30 am and we were going outside to watch for meteors, and find some of the constellations that we’d been studying that aren’t visible until after we’ve gone to bed.  Needless to say, she was very confused. But she got up, put on her bathrobe and some shoes, and outside we went.  We found the Big Dipper, which is part of the constellation Ursa Major, Orion the Hunter, and Taurus the Bull.  We found the planet Venus, it was so bright!  We never did see any of the meteor shower, but it was still exciting (at least for me).

If nothing else, we made a memory.  One she can tell her kids about someday, how her crazy mom made her get up at 5:30 in the morning to look at the stars!!  Well, learning can happen anytime, even at 5:30 am.

Cupcake had her third birthday party yesterday.  It’s so hard to believe that she will be three years old tomorrow, it seems like she was just born yesterday. For that matter, it seems like her mommy should just be turning three.  Where did the time go, and how come I’m still so young? Ha! Just kidding!

Anyway, Cupcake’s party was a smashing success.  She had a wonderful time with her family and friends.  It was held at the YMCA where she takes gymnastics, and the kids had a blast playing in the gym.  It was an ideal place to have a birthday party, very little set up and the clean up was a breeze.

I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving this year, even though none of our extended family will be visiting for the holiday.  I love preparing our family’s traditional dishes while the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is on in the background.  I can still remember being a kid and watching the parade while my mom was cooking in the kitchen.  The aroma of turkey and dressing  takes me back in time.  This is such a special time of year, I LOVE THE HOLIDAYS!!!

We heard good news today about the weather, they’re calling for rain on Thanksgiving Day!!!!  If we actually get it we will be rejoicing, and giving thanks for the rain as well as our many blessings!  Please Lord, send us rain!

Yesterday was our seventh anniversary with our Drama Queen.  Just seven short years ago she came to us through foster care.  She was our first foster child, (other than a weekend respite care), and as soon as I saw her I was smitten.   This adorable little girl with the dutch boy haircut and her four front teeth missing stole my heart at first sight.

The DFCS supervisor called me that afternoon around 5:00 pm and asked if we would be willing to take a four year old little girl.  He said it was probably going to be a long term placement.  I didn’t think twice, I said yes immediately.  We made arrangements for me to meet the caseworker.  I arrived first, and as I waited, I prayed and thanked God for bringing this little girl into our lives for as long as He would allow.  When the caseworker drove up, I saw Drama Queen’s adorable little face peering out the car window.  I got out and opened the car door and unbuckled her car seat.  The minute I took her out she grabbed my leg and said “You’re my priend” ( she couldn’t pronounce her f’s).  My heart melted and I knew that this was the child we had prayed for!

She was with us for thirteen months and then the judge gave custody back to her birth mother.  For the next two months I grieved and prayed.  I knew it was God’s will for her to be with us permanently, but being without her was agony!!! Two months later her birth mom decided to let us adopt her.  It was one of the happiest days of my life, but it was bittersweet because even though her birth mom knew it was best, it was very difficult for her.  We have an open adoption because we feel that it’s what’s best for Drama Queen and her birth mom.  They talk on the phone occasionally and we try to see her a few times a year.

The last seven years have been filled with so much love, joy, and at times heartache, but I would not trade one minute of it.  Our Drama Queen has been one of life’s most incredible blessings!

Bright Pink Toenails

What could be better than bright pink toenails?  Our daughter dropped off Cupcake and Blue Eyes yesterday afternoon so they could spend some time with Nana and Auntie Drama Queen ,while she volunteered at the Crisis Pregnancy Center.  Whenever Cupcake comes to Nana and Papa’s she wants her toenails painted. Yesterday, she chose bright pink.  She couldn’t wait to show her mommy and Papa her toenails.  While I was painting them she assured me that Papa would think they were BEAUTIFUL!   She is so dramatic, the expression on her face when she talks, and the way she uses her hands to emphasize what she’s saying are so delightful!  She is such a joy to be around.

Blue Eyes was his usual adorable self.  He is the sweetest, most easy going baby ever!  (Can you tell I’m a proud Nana?)  His personality is just like his Mommy’s, but he looks just like his daddy.  He loves to play with a ball and will keep himself amused for quite some time just throwing the ball and toddling after it.

They were not interested in napping, so we went outside to play.  We had a great time jumping on the trampoline,  playing on the swings, and in the sandbox.  I think they would have stayed outside the rest of the afternoon if I hadn’t had to go in and start dinner.

Drama Queen is such a huge help with the little ones.  She loves them dearly, but sometimes gets a little jealous of the attention they receive. ( Not that she is lacking for attention by any means.)  Her relationship with the grandkids is more like that of a sibling.  I suppose it’s because of her age and also because we spend so much time with them.

It was another beautiful day in so many ways!

Yesterday was such a perfect day!  We got off to a great start, with Drama Queen and I rising early and making pumpkin pancakes for breakfast. They turned out great and we enjoyed every bite! We got an early start on our schooling and got so much accomplished that I was amazed. I wish every day would go this smoothly, but then I probably wouldn’t appreciate days like that as much if they were a common occurence. Drama Queen was very cooperative and worked really hard. She really put forth her best effort today.

Our daughter-in-love brought Spiderman and Ladybug over this afternoon for me to watch while she got things ready for her dad’s visit tomorrow.  We had so much fun. They are such incredible kids and I am so amazed by them. They both took great naps and woke up in such happy moods.  Spiderman called me when he woke up and when I went in to check on him  he called me “Nana Banana”. I cracked up! This was the first time he has ever called me that, it was totally out of the blue.  It’s so funny to see an almost three year old being humorous.

After the little ones woke up from their naps we went outside to play.  The weather was perfect, it warmed up to 70 degrees. Ladybug decided to taste the sand in the sandbox and she made the funniest faces. I wish I’d had my camera handy. She learns something new everyday. She has learned that the dog says “wuff, wuff”, the cow says “Ooooo”, and the cat says “Owww”.  It’s adorable!

I started this post last night but got too sleepy to finish, but now I’ve got to go and start our day! Have a great one!
